Adventure Racing is a team sport. Max Adventure Race events are for teams of two, and cannot be raced individually or as a relay. Team members must stay together throughout the event.
The minimum age is 8 years on both courses when accompanied by an adult, and 14 years if two teenagers are racing together. Our registration platform only allows registration of team captains over 18 years old, please contact us for instructions for registering teams of teenagers.
Classic and Novice courses have the following team categories:
- Males
- Females
- Mixed
The Classic Course is suitable for teams with some navigation experience and includes approximately 15-25km of mountain biking, 5-10km of trail running and 2-4km of kayaking and will take most teams 3-6 hours to complete.
The Novice Course is designed for beginners and those new to the sport. The Novice Course consists of approximately 5-15km of mountain biking, 3-5km of trail running and 1-2km of kayaking. Novice teams generally finish in 2-4 hours.
Kids Course (Lake Mac & BRISBANE only)
The Kids Course will involve trail running, mountain biking and kayaking legs with simple navigation. There will be approximately 1-2km of running and 2-4km of biking and 500m of kayaking. Kids teams will finish in 30-90 minutes.
The Kids Course will be marked with arrows to help guide our young adventurers to the checkpoints. However keeping in the spirit of Adventure Racing some map reading is required. Parent/Guardians are encouraged to join their kids on the course to help with this.
The Kids Course has been created for young adventures between 5-12 years of age and teams can consist of either:
- two children up to a maximum of five children per team, or
- a parent can register with one child to make a team of two (just be aware the course is designed as a kids introduction to adventure racing so it won’t prove to be a challenge for the adult).
Teams with at least one child aged over 12 years can participate without a parent/guardian. Teams composed only of children aged under 12 years MUST have a parent/guardian accompany them for safety out on course. Entry fees cover the full team, for up to five participants.

MOUNTAIN BIKE HIRE
Any type of mountain bike in good working order will be suitable for Max Adventure Race participants. The mountain biking on course is typically fire trails with some single track, but nothing overly technical. Don't forget a basic repair kit and make sure you know how to use it!
You can ride an e-bike in a Max Adventure Race Series event, however you must notify the race director and your team will be unranked and ineligible for prizes. Your bike must meet the definition of an e-bike permitted in National parks under the NSW Road Rules / QLD Road Rules.
Mountain Bike Hire NSW
Send an Email to Mick from Sydney Mountain Bike Hire with details of the event you are attending. Pre-hired bikes will be available to collect at the bike drop location and should be returned to the Event Centre at the conclusion of the event.
Mountain Bike hires are limited. Book early, so you don’t miss out!

ON THE DAY ENTRIES
New entries will be accepted on the day.
To enter on the day both team members must make their way to the registration tent to complete entry paperwork and sign the event waiver. Please give yourself extra time to complete this on race morning, or print a copy and complete it in advance. Entry fees are payable in cash or by card.
Please see the Latest News section of the website to familiarise yourself with the details in the event program and the event safety briefing prior to attending on the day. Pay particular attention to the location of bike drop as it may not be at the event centre!
Hire bikes are unlikely to be available at late notice – they must be pre-booked through our hire bike companies.
