the course
Located a couple of hours drive North of Sydney this event is easily accessible as a day trip for Sydneysiders while being a real local event for Newcastle and Central Coast residents. Classic, Novice and Kids course options are all available – so bring the whole family for a day of adventure!
The Classic course takes teams from the shoreline of Lake Macquarie to the edge of the mighty Pacific Ocean. The mountain biking legs have you climbing up and over the footbridge to access the Eastern side of the course, but that just means they are downhills on the return leg! The run legs normally take you right up to, and along the rock platforms and tidal pools south of Caves Beach. Kayaking takes place on Lake Macquarie itself, right next to the Start/Finish area. The Classic Course includes approximately 15-25km of mountain biking, 7-12km of trail running and 2-4km of kayaking and will take most teams 4-6 hours to complete.
The Novice course is the choice for newer teams or teams looking for a shorter day out, while capturing the best bits of the Classic course. There are a few less up and downs on the mountain biking legs while still allowing the Novie course teams to experience the excitement of the coastal sections of the course. The kayaking leg on Lake Macquarie is also shorter for the Novice course teams. The Novice Course consists of approximately 5-15km of mountain biking, 3-5km of trail running and 1-2km of kayaking. Novice teams generally finish in 2-4 hours.
The Kids Course will involve trail running, mountain biking and kayaking legs with simple navigation. There will be approximately 1-2km of running and 2-4km of biking and 500m of kayaking. The Kids Course will be marked with arrows to help guide our young adventurers to the checkpoints. However, keeping in the spirit of Adventure Racing some map reading is required. Parent/Guardians are encouraged to join their kids on the course to help with this.
Race Schedule
The event schedule will be finalised in the official event program released 1-2 weeks before race day on this website.
