the course

The Sydney Max Adventure Race is conveniently located in the Royal National Park, just south of Sydney. The Royal National Park is stunning location and one of the world’s oldest National Parks. Every weekend the park comes alive with walkers, riders, whale-watchers and more! Audley hosts and start and finish and features a popular café, historic buildings, numerous picnic grounds and boat hire.

The Classic course features some steep climbs to get the lungs moving as you climb out of the valley. The mountain biking legs will have you smiling as you fly around the purpose-built mountain biking tracks that the area is famous for. Kayaking takes place on the Hacking River, right next to the Start/Finish area. The Classic Course includes approximately 15-25km of mountain biking, 7-12km of trail running and 2-4km of kayaking and will take most teams 4-6 hours to complete.

If you are new to the sport, or just don’t feel like doing the extra distance that comes with the Classic course, then the Novice course is for you. The Novice course takes in the best aspects of the Classic course with a few less hills! The Honeymoon Steps will test out your running legs, with the reward being the exciting (but not too technical) single track mountain biking. Then back down the water for a quick paddle. The Novice Course consists of approximately 5-15km of mountain biking, 3-5km of trail running and 1-2km of kayaking. Novice teams generally finish in 2-4 hours.

Audley in the Royal National Park is easily accessible from Sydney and further afield, especially for teams coming up from Wollongong. We’ve got you covered with kayaks provided for all courses and bike hire available if required.
