Event Wrap Up

Sep 20, 2022

A weekend of fine spring sunshine welcomed all teams to the secluded haven of Euroka Clearing for the Blue Mountains chapter the 2022 Max Adventure Race Series. Teams were challenged by some long legs but the effort was worth it to fly down the mountain bike single-track and run through the beautiful trails of Blue Mountains National Park. Teams were on point with their navigation on the weekend, nailing checkpoint after checkpoint as they made their way around the course.

All teams should be very proud of their accomplishments, from the fastest Classic course team to the youngest team member on the Novice course. Everyone gave their all, pushed themselves and had a real weekend adventure in the sunshine.

The fastest teams on the Classic Mixed Course on Saturday were The Moosers (Chantal Bronkhorst & Mitchell Isaacs), in 3:19:39 finally making it to the top step of the podium after a couple of near misses, in front of experienced racers Alpine Quest (Maria Plyashechko & Josh Roy) and McCatto (Michelle Catto & Phil McClenahan). On Sunday it was Stay Lost (Sari Coakley & Jordan Barta) who didn’t match their team name followed home by Tower Projects 1 (Samantha Church & Andrew McKee) and Over the Hill and Far Off Course (Melissa Backhouse & Russell Collins).

The quickest team overall across both days in 2:55:00 were Belrose Bicycles (Chad & Ryan Armstrong) who took out the Classic Male category on Saturday with Budgy Bandits (Mitchell Morley & Glen Charlton) an impressive 2nd on debut and locals Team Howell (Mark Howell & Neil Shannon) in 3rd place. On Sunday the first team home was The Super Novas (James Moore & Tim Elson) with Summit X Racing (Jarret Rigg & Angus Tadman) and Broken Compass (Andrew Hay & Alexander Burke) following them home.

Checkpoint Chasers (Emma Inglis & Sandi Strickland) were the first Female Classic team back on Saturday then it was Hadventure (Sue Moore & Lauren Strickland) and It’s the Climb 2.0 (Holly Burgmann & Eilidh Mackay). The Turbo Twins (Sarah & Molly McConnell) took out the category on Sunday followed by Karaka (Amy Crosbie & Sarah Tiong) and then local runner royalty BMMC Anne & Bel (Anne Bennett & Belinda Kinneally).

The quickest teams on the Novice course on both days were father and son combinations, Red Double Trouble (Michael & William Clark) on Saturday and Alpine Quest (Serge & Alex Kurov) on Sunday. There was a very strong family component among the Novice course teams which is great to see, what better quality family time than completing an adventure race! Special shout out to all our younger racers, they were full of energy and showed admirable grit and determination out on course.

Congratulations to all teams for embracing the adventure, it was great to see all the smiling, happy faces come across the finish line and claim that finishers medal on both days.

Also, a shout out to our incredible volunteers and the teams from 1st Blaxland Scouts and the Tin Shed Coffee Van who provided lunch and coffee to the hungry racers.

We look forward to seeing you all at another Max Adventure Race in the near future. Check out the Max Adventure Race Series website for details on upcoming NSW events in Sydney on the 26th of November and Lake Macquarie on the 11th of February.

Full results and photos from the day are available via the website so you can see how your team stacked up and grab some of your terrific event images from the crew from Outer Image.
